Dr. Pettus is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in 1980, and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Tennessee in Nashville, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed his Nephrology Fellowship at Vanderbilt Medical Center in 1986.
Dr. Pettus has been practicing Nephrology in Nashville since 1986 and has been an active medical staff member at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital for over 30 years. He previously served on the Internal Medicine Executive Committee and the Medical Executive Committee during his tenure as Chief of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Pettus’ goal in his practice is to partner with patients in the treatment of their kidney illness, emphasizing the role of chronic kidney disease as a risk factor for other health related issues.
He is married to Linda, his wife of 45 years. They enjoy water sports, such as scuba and time on the lake. He has three grandchildren which keep him active.
